Eli Lilly shared results from two phase 3b clinical trials showing its drug Zepbound could reduce symptoms of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis for people who are overweight.

Zepbound in combination with Taltz showed sustained statistically superior improvements in disease activity and metabolic outcomes compared to Taltz alone in both trials.

The trials were testing the treatment in adults with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis or active psoriatic arthritis, along with obesity and overweight with at least one additional weight-related comorbid condition.

Psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis are immune-mediated diseases that are often linked with metabolic dysfunction.

Lilly had previously reported statistically-significant results at week 36 of the trial. The new data shows improvements were maintained through week 52 with no new safety concerns.

The primary multi-component outcome continued to improve through week 52 in both trials. The treatment also led to deeper improvements in systemic inflammation over time.

Adverse events were generally mild to moderate, and included nausea, diarrhea, constipation and injection-site reactions, the company said.
