Qantas Airways (ASX:QAN) reported an overall "strong result" for fiscal 2026 considering the company's operating environment and a sharp rise in fuel costs through the second half of the year, Jarden said in a Thursday note.

The company's fiscal 2026 revenue of AU$25.52 billion fell slightly short of consensus estimates, but its core earnings per share of AU$0.9468 came in ahead of analyst forecasts, the investment firm said.

At AU$4.3 billion to AU$4.6 billion, Qantas' fiscal 2027 capital expenditure guidance is "prudently" below the AU$5 billion mark and significantly lower than the initial outlook issued alongside fiscal first-half results, Jarden added.

Additionally, the company guided for fuel costs of about AU$3.6 billion for the first half of fiscal 2027, which is over 12% higher than consensus estimates of AU$3.2 billion.

The equity research firm has a buy rating on Qantas with a target price of AU$11.35.

The company's shares rose 4% in recent Thursday trade.
