Materials Down as U.S. Dollar Rebounds

Dow Jones
Aug 25

Producers of metals, grains and other raw materials ticked down as the U.S. dollar rebounded.

The dollar had been weak in recent sessions due to concerns about the Treasury Department's buyback activity. Still, recent upward momentum in precious metals was sustained.

Gold futures rose and are now up by 16% from mid-July lows.

The strength of precious metals and cryptocurrencies in response to dollar weakness has led to more market talk about a "dollar debasement trade."
