Warsh Doesn't See Financial Conditions as Restrictive

In a more hawkish speech than many expected, Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh ticked off a series of healthy indicators for the economy: high profits, steady consumer spending, tight credit spreads and more.

"In my view, credit and loan markets are showing few signs of policy restraint," Warsh said. "On balance, I would be hard-pressed to describe broad financial conditions as restrictive." The remarks boosted Wall Street bets on interest-rate hikes.
