It's late August, but this week will be a big one for markets. Headline events include Nvidia earnings after the bell Wednesday and Kevin Warsh's first major policy speech as Federal Reserve chairman on Friday. Here are the details:

Monday

-- Economic data: Chicago Fed national activity index

-- Bessent press conference: Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said this week that he plans to hold a news conference on the administration's plans to pressure Iran with "the toughest sanctions in history."

Tuesday

-- Earnings: Dick's Sporting Goods, Bank of Nova Scotia, Bank of Montreal, Intuit, Zoom Communications

-- Economic data: Home price indexes, consumer confidence index, new home sales, Johnson Redbook retail sales index, Richmond Fed business activity survey

Wednesday

-- Earnings: Nvidia, Salesforce, CrowdStrike, HP, Okta, Abercrombie & Fitch, J.M. Smucker

-- Economic data: Durable goods orders for July; 2nd estimate of second-quarter GDP; personal consumption and expenditures (PCE), the Fed's preferred inflation gauge; EIA weekly petroleum status report.

Thursday

-- Fed Jackson Hole conference: The central bank's annual Wyoming conference runs through Saturday. It will be closely watched for hints on Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh's economic outlook. Also in focus: central-banker reaction to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's recent push to increase bond buybacks.

-- Earnings: Marvell Technology, Royal Bank of Canada, Toronto-Dominion Bank, Hormel Foods, Dollar Tree, Burlington Stores, Dollar General, Best Buy, Autodesk, Workday, Ulta Beauty, Gap

-- Economic data: Jobless claims, wholesale inventories, EIA natural-gas storage report, Kansas City Fed survey

Friday

-- Jackson Hole Fed conference: Kevin Warsh is expected to address the central-banker conference at 10 a.m. ET. This will be Warsh's first major policy speech as Fed chairman.

-- Economic data: University of Michigan final consumer survey for August, Chicago business barometer, GDP (Canada)

-- Jobs Revisions: The Bureau of Labor Statistics will release revisions to the previous year's jobs count. The last release revealed a steep drop in jobs. President Trump called the stats fake and fired the agency's chief.

Saturday

G-20 Finance meetings begin with lower-level sessions, in anticipation for the main meeting which starts Mon., Aug 31.
