On the afternoon of August 29, at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Jinshan District Youth Wisdom Camp, youth participant Ye Yangming expressed his anticipation for the upcoming months. "I was assigned to work in Xinyi Village, Fengjing Town this January and gained some understanding of grassroots work, but I'm still not familiar with Jinshan as a whole." For him, this represents a chance to step beyond the boundaries of a single village and develop a broader understanding of Jinshan.

That day, 40 young people from various fields formed the new cohort of the Youth Wisdom Camp. As a platform designed for young people to exchange ideas and discuss affairs, the camp aims to discover and unite individuals who care about urban development, are passionate about youth affairs, and are willing to participate in discussions and provide suggestions. This initiative seeks to bring diverse voices from different professions and age groups into conversations about urban planning.

When it comes to turning daily observations into valuable proposals, the first session after the opening focused on the topic of collecting suggestions from the people. Li Ying, head of the Correspondence Section at the District Petition Office, provided an overview of the "People's Suggestion Collection" initiative, guiding camp members to identify issues in their work, daily lives, and grassroots practices. She encouraged them to propose targeted and actionable recommendations.

Ye Yangming remarked, "Through a series of upcoming activities, I hope to contribute valuable suggestions for the development of Jinshan." Given his current grassroots posting in Fengjing Town, he looks forward to broadening his horizons and gaining a more comprehensive view of Jinshan through the camp.

Returning to the scene, Hu Hanxin, a previous program participant and the lead of the "Zhuaban" pet project, shared his experiences with the new cohort. Having previously visited enterprises and community service centers during his participation, he said, "I hope sharing my learning experiences from the last cohort will offer inspiration to the new members."

Before diving into proposing suggestions, participants first sought to understand the land they stand on. That afternoon, the "Smart Visiting" segment began as camp members visited the Jinshan District Planning Exhibition Hall and the Jinshan District Museum. From perspectives such as urban development and historical culture, they aimed to understand Jinshan, gathering direction and material for their future on-site research.

Bringing together young people from diverse fields also provided different lenses through which to observe the same city. Youth participant Xu Xinyuan is particularly looking forward to the interactions with fellow participants. "I'm eager to explore and communicate with friends from various industries and backgrounds during this year's events. I hope this will help broaden the perspectives I might lack in my own work and spark new ideas," she shared.

It is understood that this year's Youth Wisdom Camp, hosted by the District Youth League Committee, runs from August through December. It features five segments: "Wisdom Classroom," "Smart Visiting," "Experience Plus," "Youth Forum," and "Golden Ideas." Through theoretical learning, practical exercises, youth exchanges, and suggestion collection, the camp offers young people opportunities both for field exploration and roundtable discussions.

Xie Zi, head of the Services and Rights Protection Department of the Jinshan District Youth League Committee, noted, "The camp provides a platform for young people who care about Jinshan's development to contribute ideas." She added that upcoming series of eight sessions will guide participants through different areas of Jinshan for inspections and research.

From getting to know the city, to observing its dynamics, and then participating in shaping its future, this year's camp brings topics of urban development and youth needs into discussions. Participants are encouraged to engage in planning, implementation, and building a youth-friendly city, gradually turning their observations and ideas into concrete suggestions.

"Ultimately, our goal is to produce a series of meaningful suggestions from the people," Xie Zi concluded.
