Land serves as the foundation of rural revitalization, while industry acts as the key to boosting farmer incomes. In Zhuowangshan Village, Baliwan Town, Hong'an County, party building has been leveraged to spearhead the reclamation of abandoned farmland, revitalizing idle resources and developing large-scale cultivation to turn dormant land into fertile, wealth-generating fields. This initiative has injected robust vitality into the region's industrial revitalization efforts.
Entering Zhuowangshan Village today, the patchwork of fragmented, abandoned plots that once earned the nickname "chicken-scratch land" has vanished. In their place, lush, thriving cornfields now stretch across the landscape. As a gentle breeze passes, the broad leaves on the waist-high corn stalks sway, seemingly telling the story of this land's renewed vigor. This transformation marks the latest achievement following the village party organization's proactive efforts to attract market entities and facilitate the transfer of over 1,000 mu of land.
Proactive Leadership: Transforming Wasteland into Fertile Fields
Since the beginning of this year, the village's party branch secretary has keenly seized opportunities, actively courting capable market players. Through a strategy of consolidating small plots into larger fields, nearly 1,000 mu of previously fragmented and idle land has been successfully transferred and integrated. By July, land leveling was fully completed, and the fields were promptly planted with a drought-resistant corn variety with a growth cycle of approximately 105 to 110 days, intended for feed processing.
Just over a month later, the land has already yielded encouraging returns. "Secretary, in just over a month, the seedlings are over a meter tall!" exclaimed villager Uncle Lu, his joy evident as he surveyed the promising corn. The once-abandoned plots have become contiguous "golden granaries," with scaled and mechanized farming practices beginning to demonstrate tangible benefits.
Nurturing the Fields: Guardians of a Bountiful Harvest
From sowing to nurturing, the secretary's attention remains firmly fixed on the cornfields. Each week, he makes time to visit the fields, inspecting the crops and monitoring every stage—from mechanized weeding to pest control—with meticulous care. "Before, this area was overrun with weeds; now it's all planted with crops. It brings me great peace of mind," he reflected, gazing at the verdant expanse. Seeing the wasteland truly "come alive" and anticipating the positive impact on villagers' incomes makes all the hard work worthwhile. In another two months or so, this first corn harvest is expected, which will effectively boost both village collective and individual farmer earnings.
Extending the Chain: Solidifying Income Growth
Land transfer is merely the first step in industrial revitalization; the key lies in ensuring the land continues to generate sustained value. According to the plan, following the initial corn harvest, the fields will be planted with winter wheat this November, achieving year-round efficient land utilization. Concurrently, to extend the industrial chain and enhance the value of agricultural products, a supporting drying and storage facility is currently under rapid construction in Zhuowangshan Village. Once operational, harvested corn and wheat can be dried and stored on-site, significantly reducing post-harvest losses.
With industry taking root, the land no longer lies dormant. From warehouse construction to drying and handling, every step requires labor, offering villagers additional income opportunities right at their doorstep alongside their land lease payments. "One plot of land brings in two sources of income—it gives everyone a real sense of security," locals say. From abandonment to the hum of machinery, from weed-choked emptiness to thriving green shoots, Zhuowangshan Village is steadily advancing on the path of industrial revitalization. A new vision of a prosperous agricultural sector, a beautiful countryside, and wealthy farmers is gradually unfolding across this landscape of hope.
