Cybersecurity firm Rubrik Inc. (RBRK.US) delivered fiscal Q2 2027 results and forward guidance that comprehensively exceeded Wall Street estimates, with multiple analysts describing the performance as "impressive." Despite the beat, shares sold off as investor expectations had been set exceptionally high heading into the print.

The company reported second-quarter revenue of $427.3 million, up 38% from $309.9 million in the same period last year and ahead of consensus. Adjusted diluted earnings per share came in at $0.20, versus a loss of $0.03 per share in the prior-year quarter, marking a return to adjusted profitability.

Subscription annual recurring revenue (ARR), a key metric closely tracked by the market, rose 32.6% year-over-year to $1.66 billion in Q2, surpassing both the company's own guidance of $1.64 billion and the Street's expectation for 31.0% growth. Notably, this growth rate ticked up slightly from the 32.5% recorded in Q1, indicating that subscription momentum remains intact rather than decelerating. Net new subscription ARR reached $96 million, up 35% year-over-year and well above the $75.9 million analysts had modeled.

Management stated that the quarter exceeded guidance on all metrics. Buoyed by the strong performance, Rubrik Inc. raised its full-year fiscal 2027 outlook. For Q3, the company guided revenue between $429 million and $431 million, ahead of the $418.3 million analysts expected, with adjusted EPS forecast between $0.07 and $0.09, above the $0.06 consensus. For the full fiscal year, revenue guidance was lifted to $1.685 billion to $1.693 billion, up from a previous range of $1.64 billion to $1.65 billion. Adjusted EPS guidance was raised significantly to $0.47 to $0.53 from the prior $0.07 to $0.27. Analysts had previously projected full-year revenue of $1.64 billion and adjusted EPS of $0.32. The subscription ARR target was also revised higher to $1.88 billion to $1.89 billion, compared with the earlier $1.85 billion to $1.86 billion range, with an adjusted midpoint of $1.88 billion implying 28.8% year-over-year growth.

The company attributed the guidance increase to Q2 performance exceeding the prior outlook by approximately $20 million, plus an expected incremental addition of roughly $4.5 million in the second half of the year.

View on Wall Street: Long-Term Narrative Remains Solid While Near-Term Reaction 'Misses the Forest for the Trees'

Despite the pre-market share decline, several sell-side analysts reaffirmed confidence in Rubrik Inc.'s long-term trajectory, arguing that concerns over specific details have amplified short-term volatility. Jefferies analyst Joseph Gallo maintained a "Buy" rating with a $120 price target. "As a leader in cyber resilience, Rubrik is well positioned for durable long-term growth, supported by secular tailwinds including ransomware, SaaS/cloud workloads, and data growth," Gallo wrote in a client note. He believes consensus estimates for fiscal 2027 ARR have upside and projects subscription ARR growth can sustain above 20% over the coming years, driven by cloud ARR expansion and cross-selling of SaaS/cloud workload protection, cyber resilience capabilities, and data/AI governance products. Gallo acknowledged that Rubrik Inc. still trails cybersecurity peers of similar revenue scale in operating profitability but pointed to a "significant path to improvement."

BTIG analyst Gray Powell raised his price target on the stock from $109 to $125, reiterating a "Buy" rating. Powell noted that while pre-earnings expectations were high, "the company exceeded expectations on all key metrics." He added: "In our view, Rubrik is benefiting from incremental demand for cyber resilience driven by Mythos and broader AI advances. Identity security momentum remains strong, and early data on Rubrik Agent Cloud is encouraging." Powell also addressed some skeptical voices on the Street. Some investors have pointed to the guidance as implying a slowdown in net new subscription ARR in the second half of fiscal 2027, while others have raised questions about the mix between cloud and non-cloud business. In Powell's view, however, these arguments "miss the forest for the trees."
