Authorities have identified a new barrier lake forming downstream during ongoing rescue operations in Gyirong County, Shigatse, Tibet.

The Ministry of Emergency Management deployed reconnaissance and heavy-lift drones from the "Yuyan Emergency" member unit to continuously monitor the development of the Purepu Qiangzangbu barrier lake and conduct rolling consultations to fully assist and guide local rescue and disaster relief efforts.

On the evening of August 29, forward-deployed monitoring drones spotted a landslide at a mountainside location 2.8 kilometers downstream of the Purepu Qiangzangbu barrier lake, creating a new landslide dam that is now forming a second barrier lake.

The Ministry of Emergency Management immediately convened experts for assessment and analysis, while also relocating rescue personnel near Gyirong Port to a safe position.
