As the summer break winds down, family travel has once again dominated the tourism market for the 2026 summer season. Shanghai Legoland Resort (referred to as Shanghai Legoland) has maintained its strong appeal as a dedicated family destination, drawing a more diverse visitor base while showcasing new trends of longer stays and deeper engagement among family guests.

Visitor numbers across the summer have been stable and positive, with the resort's market reach expanding steadily. Having moved past its opening year, Shanghai Legoland delivered robust results in its second summer season, with overall traffic rising compared to the same period in 2025. Family groups remain the core audience, accounting for over 80% of total visitors, cementing the resort's reputation as a new benchmark in the family-oriented attraction space. The resort's catchment area has also widened considerably. Beyond the core Yangtze River Delta market, more travelers from cities within a three-to-five-hour high-speed rail radius are choosing to make the trip. Notably, visitor growth from provinces such as Anhui, Henan, Jiangxi, and Fujian has been especially pronounced. Leveraging Shanghai's broader tourism resources, the resort has partnered with attractions like the Oriental Pearl Tower and Shanghai Zoo to offer combo tickets, giving out-of-town guests a richer urban exploration experience that extends beyond the park itself.

Shanghai's status as the first stop for inbound travel continues to attract global visitors. During the summer, the resort saw triple-digit growth in foreign arrivals, up nearly 2.5 times year-on-year. To cater to this rising inbound demand, Shanghai Legoland has launched its overseas app version across Asia-Pacific, Europe, and Oceania. Thanks to its proximity to Jinshan North Station, travelers from Shanghai Hongqiao Hub can reach the station in as little as 18 minutes, followed by a short shuttle ride to the park. The entire journey from Hongqiao Airport to the resort takes just 30 minutes at best. This convenient transport network, paired with continuously upgraded international services, is drawing more overseas visitors to include Shanghai Legoland as a must-visit stop on their China itineraries.

The park-plus-hotel model has emerged as a favored choice for family vacations this year. With the rise of slow-paced travel, more families are extending their trips to enjoy a relaxed, in-depth holiday experience. In the latter half of summer, off-peak demand surged, and Shanghai Legoland Hotel hit peak occupancy. Throughout August, aside from a few days affected by typhoons, the hotel remained fully booked, with themed rooms proving especially popular among families. Many visitors have shifted from one-day excursions to overnight stays, savoring quality time with their children at a more leisurely pace. The hotel also introduced limited-time summer activities, including the Brick Splash Party and Brick Bubble Storm, allowing kids to revel in water and foam while giving parents a chance to put down their phones and focus on meaningful interaction. These events have drawn over 10,000 participants this summer and will run through October. For many families, the hotel has evolved from a mere lodging option into a vital space for parent-child bonding, extending the joy of the park experience well beyond its gates.

Immersive experiences have gained momentum, fueling both engagement and spending. The Legoland Play Festival, debuting at Shanghai Legoland this summer, delivered a vibrant seasonal experience with a host of themed activities, building sessions, and interactive performances. Data shows cumulative participation in the festival has surpassed 700,000 visits, with the LEGO F1 Racing Zone and the 2026 FIFA World Cup Zone emerging as the top draws among IP-themed areas. Classic park attractions also maintained their popularity. The Beach Party, offering a refreshing water-play experience, has become a must-do for young visitors, hosting over 100,000 guests since reopening for the season. Creative building has been equally impressive, with eight creative workshops running over a thousand sessions and attracting more than 30,000 participants.

On the consumer front, themed dining and retail products have performed strongly. Driven by the Play Festival, the World Cup-themed soccer burger topped the list of new food bestsellers. The themed slushie cup, featuring a soccer-ball design and refreshing taste, also won over visitors, with over 10,000 units sold. Additionally, the park launched a limited-time Culinary Stamp Hunt in August, adding a layer of immersion and fun to dining. Guests can collect stamps while enjoying meals and even enter lucky draws, drawing thousands of participants within just one month. Retail items such as the first-anniversary badge blind boxes, anniversary minifigures, and anniversary mugs have ranked among the top sellers, becoming treasured summer keepsakes for visiting families. Meanwhile, the resort's Brick Passport, DIY minifigure, and role-play products remain steady bestsellers, accompanying guests through a full day of immersive exploration.
