AI Integration Boosts Efficiency by 13.88 Million Working Hours at China Merchants Bank, Says CIO

At the 2026 interim results conference held on August 31, China Merchants Bank Co., Ltd. (CM Bank) highlighted significant strides in its financial technology initiatives. Chief Information Officer Zhou Tianhong noted that since 2024, the bank has intensified its efforts to leverage artificial intelligence large models to drive digital transformation and upgrade operations.

According to Zhou, the bank has successfully deployed AI large models across over 1,000 distinct work tasks that are now actively contributing to daily operations. In the first half of this year alone, this AI integration delivered an equivalent labor contribution of 13.88 million working hours, effectively boosting overall staff productivity. The technology is now broadly applied across front-office, middle-office, and back-office functions, underscoring its pervasive role in the bank's ecosystem.

Zhou provided concrete examples of these AI achievements. The "Golden Sunflower Assistant" has become a comprehensive tool enhancing the service and business management capabilities of client managers, driving positive shifts in their work patterns and habits. During the first six months, CM Bank reported a 14.65% increase in the average number of effective client contacts made by capital planning client managers via phone calls, alongside a 35.82% rise in average transaction value per client.

Looking ahead, Zhou outlined that the bank has formulated a more detailed blueprint for advancing its "smart banking" agenda. Setting an ambitious benchmark, China Merchants Bank Co., Ltd. is now executing a comprehensive strategy to achieve these future-oriented goals.
