South Korea Unveils Plan to Sell Up to 222.8 Trillion Won in Government Bonds for 2027

South Korea intends to issue as much as 222.8 trillion won in government bonds next year, according to the finance ministry's 2027 budget proposal.
Of this total, 110.7 trillion won is earmarked for refinancing maturing debt, while 15.9 trillion won has been allocated for market-making operations such as buybacks, according to four finance and budget ministry officials who requested anonymity. This implies a net issuance of roughly 96.3 trillion won.
Under next year's budget plan, the ceiling for issuing foreign-currency-denominated stabilization bonds is set at $8 billion, while the cap for won-denominated stabilization bonds stands at 13.8 trillion won, according to two ministry officials.
