On August 28, reporters joined the "Discovering China's Dynamic Regions" research team to visit the Sanggou Bay Marine Ranch in Weihai, where they investigated the region's distinctive aquaculture industry. This ranch has implemented a unique system that grants every pufferfish destined for market its own exclusive traceability identification.
The ranch cultivates its pufferfish without the use of any pesticides or medications throughout the entire breeding process. Regular random inspections are conducted to test for drug residues, and fish are only permitted to enter the market after passing these stringent quality checks, ensuring a fully traceable aquatic product safety chain.
In addition to its core aquaculture and export operations, the ranch has simultaneously developed eco-tourism and educational programs for visitors. These initiatives attract approximately 100,000 tourists annually, offering them an up-close look at sustainable marine farming practices.
During the visit, staff members demonstrated the pufferfish traceability system to the reporters, highlighting the farm's commitment to food safety. Tourists at the site were also seen enjoying interactive activities such as feeding the fish and angling, which have become popular attractions at the ranch.
