A passenger queue passes through security checks during the summer travel rush. On September 1st, data released by Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport revealed that during the summer travel season, the airport handled 65,000 flight takeoffs and landings, marking an 8.9% year-on-year increase. Passenger throughput reached 9.884 million, a 9.8% rise year-on-year, setting a new historical record for the period. Notably, on August 15th, the airport supported 1,131 flights in a single day, breaking its all-time daily record since operations began, while August 8th saw daily passenger throughput hit 173,000, the highest-ever for a summer season.

During the period, many transportation metrics at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport hit record highs. The average daily flight count remained above 1,000, with daily passenger traffic consistently exceeding 160,000. The average passenger load factor reached 88.9%, ranking second among China's top ten airports. There were 49 days with over 1,000 daily flights and 36 days with daily passenger numbers above 160,000. The airport continued to expand its domestic route network, with average daily flights via Chongqing to Xinjiang, Tibet, and Yunnan at about 23, 14, and 29, respectively, further cementing its role as a key transfer hub.

International passenger traffic also surged, growing 22.6% year-on-year to 506,000, the fastest growth rate among the top ten airports nationwide. The airport maintained 40 international and regional passenger routes with over 250 weekly flights. It has also launched through-services to 15 international destinations, including Seattle, London, Paris, Rome, Milan, Madrid, Budapest, Brussels, Moscow, Sydney, Dubai, Osaka, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, and Phnom Penh, greatly enhancing cross-border travel efficiency and offering smoother experiences for international travelers.

The airport also saw a strong performance in transfer traffic. During the summer, transfer passengers totaled 850,000, up 24.6% year-on-year, with international transfers at 147,000, a 31.5% increase. To improve the travel experience, the airport introduced free accommodation and free city tours for eligible transfer passengers and those on early or late flights, making overnight layovers less burdensome. It also upgraded domestic transfer services by adding a re-check-in function, allowing passengers to complete check-in for connecting flights both at dedicated counters and in a new area beside the domestic baggage claim hall, reducing connection times. The “Chongqing Fly · Mountain City Tour” product was enhanced with scheduled routes covering popular city attractions, letting transit travelers choose flexible options. Additionally, the “Yu-Hu Express” service now allows voluntary airline changes without class restrictions, enabling walk-up boarding and offering greater flexibility for business and frequent flyers.

Route promotions and international branding also advanced. The airport hosted a themed livestream called “Aviation and Tourism Integration: Leaping Across a Thousand Years” to introduce routes and transfer products, boosting its appeal. In terms of global branding, it established sister airport partnerships with Milan's and Brussels' airports and, together with airlines, organized route promotional events overseas to strengthen its position as an international hub and a transfer point connecting travelers from Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

On the highways, Chongqing Expressway Group also released its summer results. Over the 62-day season ending August 31st, total traffic exceeded 61.6 million vehicle trips, with a daily average close to one million. On August 16th, a single-day peak of 1.1013 million trips was recorded. The total was 61.6043 million trips, up 0.52% year-on-year. The top five toll stations by traffic were G5013 Science City, G65 Banan, G5021 Nan'an, S7 Gaoxin South, and G93 Gaoxin. Cross-provincial trips reached 14.8791 million, down 0.77% year-on-year, with the busiest provincial corridors being Yulin Road (G65 Yubei), Chengyu Road (G85 Yurong), Tong'an Road (S8 Tong'an), Yurong Road (G5013 Dazu), and Yuqian Second Line (G7521 Anwen North).

New energy vehicles (NEVs) were a highlight this summer. NEV trips hit 15.31 million, a 38.91% increase year-on-year, making up 24.86% of total traffic, meaning one in four vehicles was electric. Across the network's service areas, charging sessions totaled 747,200, up 39%, with an average of 12,000 daily charges. Dazu Rock Carvings, Lixianghu, and Qiaotang service areas led in charging volume. The average charging time was 21.6 minutes, with no long queues reported. Service areas welcomed 14.38 million vehicles daily, an 8.8% rise, and 42.61 million visitors, up 5.3%. The “Mobile+” quick payment service for expressways reached 701,900 users, handling 2.0322 million trips, with a daily peak exceeding 50,000.
