China's Ministry of Commerce, alongside six other government departments, has unveiled a new policy framework aimed at boosting consumer spending through technological innovation.
The joint directive, released recently, outlines measures to promote the expansion and upgrading of commercial goods consumption. Among the key initiatives is the development of national pilot bases for AI applications in the consumer sector.
To accelerate the integration of artificial intelligence into daily life, the policy calls for streamlining the research and development process for AI-centric products, with the goal of launching a range of intelligent consumer goods that are both internationally competitive and offer substantial market appeal.
The measures specifically target the rapid deployment of AI-enabled smartphones and computers, smart wearable devices, intelligent robots, and connected home systems for widespread consumer use. This push is designed to make these advanced technologies mainstream essentials rather than niche products.
Furthermore, the plan includes building dedicated "AI + Consumption" hubs and retail concepts, such as brand collection stores and AI application experience centers. These physical infrastructures aim to bridge the gap between technological capabilities and everyday consumer engagement, creating immersive shopping environments that showcase the practical benefits of intelligent devices.
