The valuation race in AI-powered software development is accelerating at breakneck speed. In just three months, Cognition AI Inc. has seen its valuation climb from $26 billion to roughly $47 billion, underscoring the market's intense demand for AI engineering tools.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Cognition is close to finalizing a new funding round of approximately $1 billion, with the final amount potentially exceeding that figure. The round has attracted nearly $10 billion in investor subscription interest, with demand far outstripping supply. Those same sources caution that negotiations are still ongoing and terms could shift.
Explosive revenue growth underpins this dramatic valuation increase. Insiders indicate that Cognition's annualized revenue has now surpassed $900 million, compared with the $492 million annualized figure the company disclosed at the end of May. That represents nearly a doubling in just a few months.
Valuation Nearly Doubles in Three Months, Fueled by Rapid Revenue Expansion
Cognition's valuation trajectory has captured the market's attention. Just three months ago, the company completed a $1 billion funding round at a $26 billion valuation. If the current round closes as expected, the valuation will leap to approximately $47 billion, an increase of roughly 81%.
Bloomberg first reported in early August that Cognition was in talks to raise funds at a valuation of at least $40 billion. Within less than a month, the expected valuation has been revised upward further.
The company's flagship product, the AI engineering agent Devin, is its most closely watched offering. Devin can autonomously complete programming tasks and has gained widespread popularity among developers.
The rapid rise in revenue figures provides fundamental support for the elevated valuation. According to insiders, Cognition's annualized revenue has now exceeded $900 million, a near-doubling from the $492 million annualized revenue the company self-reported at the end of May, reflecting strong momentum in its commercialization efforts.
Competitive Landscape Stirs Investor Enthusiasm
Major transactions by competitors have also fueled investor interest in Cognition. As Bloomberg previously reported, SpaceX announced a $60 billion acquisition of Cursor, a direct competitor of Cognition, with the deal closing in August.
This acquisition has provided a crucial valuation benchmark for the AI coding tools sector. It has also prompted investors to reassess Cognition's market position and potential worth, driving fundraising demand in the current round to significantly exceed expectations.
