According to the latest panel industry research from TrendForce, although memory supply shortages and rising prices are intensifying cost pressures across the smartphone supply chain and reshaping brand shipment plans for 2026, the second-hand phone and repair markets continue to provide meaningful support, helping smartphone panel demand outperform expectations. Global smartphone panel shipments are now projected to reach approximately 2.25 billion units in 2026, with the year-on-year decline narrowing to 2.5% from earlier forecasts.
TrendForce notes that smartphone panel demand is increasingly polarizing toward AMOLED and a-Si LCD technologies. AMOLED continues to penetrate the mid-to-high-end market, while a-Si LCD maintains a solid shipment base by leveraging its cost advantages alongside demand from the mid-to-low-end segment, second-hand devices, and the repair market. In contrast, LTPS LCD's application space in the smartphone market continues to contract, with related production capacity gradually shifting toward automotive, IT, and other sectors. Looking at the 2026 shipment forecast, LCD smartphone panels (including a-Si LCD and LTPS LCD) are expected to reach approximately 1.33 billion units, accounting for roughly 59% of total shipments, while AMOLED smartphone panels are projected at around 920 million units, representing a 41% share.
In the second quarter, BOE maintained its position as the global shipment leader, while TCL CSOT narrowed the market share gap with Samsung Display.
Examining second-quarter 2026 smartphone panel shipment performance, total shipments came in at approximately 560 million units, a slight decline from the previous quarter. Panel leader BOE shipped roughly 146 million units, securing the global No. 1 position with a 26.1% market share. BOE's product portfolio spans a-Si LCD, LTPS LCD, and AMOLED. Its a-Si LCD panels not only supply smartphone brands but also maintain a considerable shipment scale in the second-hand phone and repair markets, while its AMOLED panels continue to benefit from expanding adoption by smartphone brands, underpinning overall shipment performance.
Ranked second, Samsung Display shipped approximately 90 million units in the second quarter, capturing a market share of around 16.1%. Its shipment mix is dominated by AMOLED panels, primarily supplying Samsung's own brand series as well as Apple's iPhone lineup. Although the 2026 Android new-device market faces relatively cautious brand stocking attitudes due to rising component costs such as memory, demand for AMOLED panels from Samsung and Apple's mid-to-high-end and flagship models remains relatively stable, helping Samsung Display sustain its overall shipment scale.
Third place goes to TCL CSOT, which shipped approximately 84 million units in the second quarter, with its market share surpassing 15% for the first time. The T19 production line's LCD smartphone panel shipments have ramped up significantly, serving as the primary growth driver for second-quarter shipments. Although overall new-device market demand remains weak, the second-hand phone and repair markets continue to support LCD panels maintaining a certain shipment scale, which has helped lift TCL CSOT's overall market share.
HKC ranked fourth in the second quarter with approximately 13% market share, with a-Si LCD serving as its primary shipment driver. Fifth-ranked Tianma held a market share of roughly 12.4%, with its product layout covering both LCD and AMOLED panels. In addition to continuing to supply major smartphone brands, Tianma's a-Si LCD product shipment ratio has also increased in 2026, supporting its overall shipment performance.
