According to reports from China Unicom, a major disaster struck the Gyirong Port area in Gyirong County, Shigatse City, Tibet, on August 26. CHINA UNICOM swiftly mobilized its emergency communication support efforts, coordinating initiatives such as satellite SMS, customer service hotlines, and network repair operations to ensure communication connectivity and emergency service response for residents in the affected region.
During the flood season disaster emergency support period, CHINA UNICOM has provided free service suspension protection and BeiDou SMS emergency communication services to affected customers, which can be used at no charge until September 15, 2026. As of 6:00 AM on August 28, the Tibet branch of CHINA UNICOM has dispatched a total of 30 emergency repair personnel, 13 emergency vehicles, 5 satellite phones, 4 fusion splicers, 16 kilometers of optical cable, 23 splice closures, 3 portable satellite emergency devices, 2 mobile power supplies, 1 nomadic base station, 2 sets of base station supporting equipment, and 6 two-way radios.
