Sources from the emergency management authority indicate that, to support rescue and disaster relief operations following the mudslide in Gyirong County, Shigatse City, Tibet, the ministry has deployed reconnaissance drones and heavy-lift drones from the "Rain Swallow Emergency" member unit. These are being used to continuously track the development of the Purepu Qiangzang barrier lake and to conduct rolling assessments, fully assisting and guiding local authorities in all rescue and relief efforts.
On the evening of August 29, forward monitoring drones detected a landslide occurring 2.8 kilometers downstream of the Purepu Qiangzang barrier lake, resulting in the formation of a new landslide dam and the emergence of a new barrier lake.
The emergency management authority promptly convened experts for assessment and analysis, while simultaneously relocating rescue personnel near Gyirong Port to a safe location.
