Following a devastating mudslide on the Nepalese side that caused significant casualties and left individuals missing at Gyirong Port in Gyirong County, Shigatse City, Tibet, the Ministry of Natural Resources has escalated its response.

At approximately 10:30 AM on August 26, the disaster struck the border area, prompting the Ministry to activate a Level II emergency response for geological hazards by 3:00 PM the same day. An expert team has been dispatched to the site to assist with rescue operations and to mitigate the risk of secondary geological disasters.

The Ministry has directed the Department of Natural Resources of the Tibet Autonomous Region to immediately send a specialized expert group to the affected area. Their primary tasks include providing technical support for ongoing search and rescue efforts and ensuring robust monitoring, early warning, and preventive measures are in place to address similar geological risks in the region.

Additionally, the China Geological Survey and the Ministry’s Geological Hazard Technical Guidance Center have been tasked with intensifying expert coordination, organizational support, and collaborative assessments to ensure comprehensive technical assistance is provided throughout the emergency response.
