Former JPMorgan Employee Files Federal Lawsuit Alleging Racial Discrimination and Sexual Assault

A former JPMorgan Chase employee has filed a federal lawsuit alleging widespread racial discrimination and workplace harassment within the bank's leveraged finance team.

Chirayu Rana, who is of Nepali descent, joined JPMorgan in 2024 and left the following year. In April, he sued former colleague Lorna Haidini and JPMorgan in state court, accusing her of long-term sexual assault and harassment. This week, he filed a new federal lawsuit repeating many of those claims and adding three former JPMorgan colleagues as defendants.

The lawsuit claims that Rana was the only non-white employee on his team, that his supervisor used racial slurs against him, and that he was sexually assaulted. It also states that team members said Rana was hired only to meet diversity hiring quotas.

According to the complaint, Haidini allegedly stated that the company preferred employees who resembled CEO Jamie Dimon and that management wanted to maintain a predominantly white, Christian workforce.

JPMorgan has declined to comment on the new lawsuit. A lawyer for Haidini previously denied all allegations, calling them fabricated and stating that no sexual relationship ever occurred. The bank said it conducted an internal investigation and found Rana's claims to be without merit.

Rana's initial legal team withdrew from the case. His new firm, Joseph & Norinsberg, moved the case from state to federal court, arguing that the initial complaint omitted federal civil rights claims.

Rana's subsequent employer, private equity firm Bregal Sagemount, said it dismissed him in early April. The Wall Street Journal reported in May that JPMorgan offered Rana $1 million to settle the sexual assault and harassment claims weeks before his initial lawsuit was filed.
