Chengdu Projects Hit Major Milestones: Airport Hub, AI Manufacturing and Seed Innovation Base

A series of significant infrastructure and industrial projects in Chengdu are reporting major progress. Highlights include the successful completion of government acceptance checks for a key cargo project at Chengdu Tianfu International Airport, the start of trial production at a robotics facility in Jianyang, and the topping-out of a seed industry hub in Qionglai.

The second phase of the Sichuan Airlines International Cargo Station at Chengdu Tianfu International Airport has recently passed its completion and fire safety inspections. Having also secured the necessary customs registration, the facility now meets all preliminary conditions for official operation. This project is a critical component of the airport's strategy to enhance its cargo handling capacity and efficiency. The expansion will introduce eight new receiving lanes and is fitted with intelligent volume measurement devices and other automated auxiliary equipment. Once operational, it is projected to process an annual cargo throughput of 165,000 tonnes.

Preparations for the launch are largely finalized, with security screening machines installed, commissioned, and having passed their acceptance filing. All hardware and intelligent operational systems within the cargo terminal now satisfy the requirements for service. The facility is scheduled to officially begin operations in September 2026. Together with the existing Phase 1 of the Sichuan Airlines International Cargo Station, the new project will establish a cargo service model characterized by separate inbound and outbound flows, professional management, and intelligent operations. This integrated approach is expected to create a highly efficient and complementary operational structure, streamlining cargo processing workflows at Tianfu International Airport and boosting cargo turnover efficiency. The project is set to provide robust air logistics support for the high-level opening-up of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic zone and the large-scale, high-quality development of the modern logistics industry.

Moving to Jianyang, the city's first artificial intelligence industrial project has entered its trial production stage. The AI Intelligent General-Purpose Robot R&D and Manufacturing Base is gearing up for official production in September. Inside a standard factory building in the Jianyang Economic Development Zone, rows of black-and-white security patrol robots are lined up, bearing the marks of Guangmu Technology and clear "Intelligent Security" labeling. Technicians are currently conducting software debugging and multi-round calibration tests on each unit before they leave the factory.

According to project technical staff, these robots feature wireless charging and an IP55 protection rating, making them suitable for operation in light rain and humid conditions. They are designed for continuous 24-hour autonomous patrol missions. Equipped with advanced AI algorithms, the robots can accurately identify 20-plus types of target behaviors and abnormal situations, making them adaptable for residential communities and industrial parks. The project represents a total investment of 300 million yuan and is being developed in three phases. Phase one is now in trial production within the 12,000-square-meter facility, where four production lines are ready. The base is set to mass-produce a series of intelligent robots for security, general-purpose, and cleaning applications, with core functional areas for R&D, testing, warehousing, and offices already completed in tandem.

The facility is expected to become Guangmu Technology's largest production and R&D base in Southwest China, facilitating the rapid transfer of the company's core algorithms and scenario expertise into the market through large-scale manufacturing. Zhou Hainan, General Manager of Suzhou Guangmu Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. for the Southwest region, explained that the site currently focuses on producing wheeled security robots with Ackermann steering. Future plans include manufacturing lawn mowers and cleaning robots, with the four production lines allocated for security, cleaning, and future mowing functions to form a complete production chain. The annual output value is projected to reach 100 million yuan, and at full capacity, the facility is more than capable of producing over 1,000 units per year.

In the agricultural sector, construction is advancing on infrastructure that underpins seed industry innovation. The support service area construction project, a core sub-project of the Tianfu Germplasm Resource Protection and Utilization Enhancement Project led by Lingling Group, has achieved a major milestone with its main structure now fully topped out. This marks significant progress for the essential infrastructure project located within the Tianfu Modern Seed Industry Park. Qionglai serves as the core area of the "Tianfu Granary" in the Chengdu region, and the Tianfu Modern Seed Industry Park is the nation's first and the Southwest's only national-level seed industry park. This newly topped-out support service area is a key element in strengthening the park's seed innovation foundation and enhancing its ability to protect and utilize germplasm resources.

The support service area project is located on the north side of Xin Qiong Road and the west side of Landscape Avenue within the Tianfu Modern Seed Industry Park. Encompassing a total floor area of approximately 19,000 square meters, the development consists of a single comprehensive laboratory building with five floors above ground and one below. Construction began in December 2025, and the main structure is now complete. Work is currently underway on internal masonry and installation, with completion targeted for April 2027. This facility is designed to serve as a breeding innovation hub for resident enterprises and research institutes. It will house four key centers: a germplasm resource protection research center, a biological breeding R&D center, a seed industry pilot-scale maturation center, and a breeding accelerator. These will be equipped with full facilities for biological breeding experiments, germplasm preservation, and related outdoor works, providing systematic hardware support for the entire seed technology innovation chain from preservation and R&D to pilot testing and acceleration.

The overall Tianfu Germplasm Resource Protection and Utilization Enhancement and Supporting Facilities Construction Project has a total investment of 275 million yuan. It is being advanced through four coordinated sub-projects addressing the needs of grain, oil, livestock, poultry, and vegetable seed development. With the core support service area now topped out, the other three sub-projects are also making steady progress.
